Fitness: Just 20-Seconds “Bite” of Exercise?

Believe it or not, a new study shows that even 20 seconds of activity bursts can benefit your health. Simply getting up from your desk and moving like going up the stairs is enough to improve your aerobic condition. But, you must do this several times a day.  A study of interval training reveals that moving several times a day in brief bursts

will benefit your cardio health. (See our post on this: Sit-Stand Your Way to Better Health.) By moving in a fast burst, vigorous biking, walking up the stairs, moving quickly down the hallway are all beneficial to spread snacks of fitness throughout your day. By doing three of these 20-second bursts throughout the day, the study’s participants were able to increase their cardio fitness by 5% after six weeks. The study focused on walking up three floors briskly three times a day. So if you have a desk job, get up from your desk at least three times a day and walk briskly.

Food: Drink More Water Now!

Weight Watchers no longer pushes its members to drink water every day. However, if you dive into the research, water is still helpful in losing weight. Here are the top reasons for drinking water from Gaiam. If you really want to lose weight, follow the “8×8” rule. That is drink at least eight (8) glasses of 8 fl. oz. of water for weight loss and to maintain weight. Drink more water if you exercise a lot. Try bringing a bottle of water with you when you work out and keeping a bottle of water at work. Sip water throughout the day. It’s best to eat “clean” water without adding anything other than maybe some lemon or lime juice.

Water also reduces your appetite by filling up the volume in your stomach and helps with digestion. Water also is an excellent substitute for higher calorie beverages. Drinking water each day will help your body get rid of toxins. Some people report that their skin is glowing after increasing their water intake. Get a great water bottle, something that you are proud to carry around, and fill it with water several times a day.
